Are all types of hearing loss the same?

What is the difference between an analog and digital hearing aid?
Analog devices are an earlier generation technology (featuring a microphone, amplifier and a speaker) that is no longer available. Digital devices include a computerized chip, an important innovation that leads to better sound quality and reduced feedback.
What are the different hearing aid styles?
There has never been more choice, which is good news for anyone who needs a hearing aid. Some of the most common styles include Behind the ear (BTE), mini BTE, Receiver in the ear canal (RIE/RIC). We also offer four custom molded aids: In the ear (ITE), In the canal (ITC), completely in the canal (CIC), and the deep CIC.
What is the cost range for hearing aids?
Basic hearing aids start from as low as $1300. We also offer higher quality hearing aids that are a good investment for individuals who want the best possible hearing or work in a challenging noise environment.

When is it necessary to have two hearing aids?
Two hearing aids should be considered when a person has hearing loss in both ears.
How often do hearing aid batteries need to be changed?
The lifespan of disposable hearing aid batteries depends on the size of the battery and the power of the aid. Some hearing aid batteries may last as long as two weeks on some instruments.
Is it possible to get rechargeable batteries for hearing aids?
Yes, certain Siemens BTE hearing instruments currently have a rechargeable batteries option.
Is it true that there is a connection between hearing and brain activity?
Yes, it is true that improved hearing can stimulate portions of the brain. This is important because increased stimulation helps improve brain function just as physical exercise improves the health of your body.
Can I get my hearing aid serviced at Unionville Hearing Centre?
Yes, trouble shooting and minor repairs to existing hearing aids can often be completed same day and we are open six days a week. Some repairs of hearing aids may need to be returned to the manufacturer. The cost will depend on the nature of the repair and whether the hearing aid is still covered by a warranty.
Does Unionville Hearing Centre sell hearing protection products and assisted hearing products?
Yes, we are most commonly asked to supply hearing protection items (such as swim plugs) and other assistive devices such as amplified telephones.
